Blyth
Skip Blyth as a base unless you have a reason to be here: a working port and commuter town with half a day of sights. Stay only for family or a cheap bed near the coast.
Blyth is an industrial port 17 miles north of Newcastle, population just under 40,000 in 2021. It has limited sights: a lighthouse now in private hands, a lightship clubhouse, a riverside sculpture and a sandy beach. Most travellers pass through; the town works as a cheap bed for the coast or a family visit, not as a destination.
