Blue Lake
Skip unless you need a quiet base for Humboldt County or want to visit Mad River Brewing: half a day is enough.
Blue Lake is a small city (pop. ~1,250) on the Mad River, 15 minutes east of Arcata. It has a brewery, a few restaurants and a tiny downtown. Most travellers use it as a stop on the way to the coast or Redding, not a destination.
