Bloemhof
Skip unless you fish, hunt or want a quiet night on the Vaal River: half a day for the dam reserve, then drive on.
Bloemhof is a small agricultural town on the Vaal River in North West Province, best known for the Bloemhof Dam Nature Reserve and Sandveld Game Reserve. The town itself has little for a passing traveller beyond a fuel stop and basic supplies. Most visitors come for fishing, birding or a self-drive game-viewing loop. One night is enough if you arrive late; otherwise treat it as a lunch stop between Johannesburg and the Northern Cape.
