Blaj
Skip Blaj unless you have a specific interest in 18th–19th century Romanian cultural history or need a quiet stop between Sibiu and Cluj: half a day is enough.
Blaj is a small town on the Târnava Mare river that was the cultural centre of Transylvanian Romanians in the 1700s–1800s. It has a handful of sights — the market square, a hill cross, the old train station — and a public swimming complex. Most travellers pass through in under 4 hours or skip it entirely.
