Black Point and Pine Point
Go for 2–3 nights if you want a beach-and-boat base with no restaurants; skip if you need cafés, nightlife or a supermarket within walking distance.
Black Point and Pine Point are two small beach settlements on the eastern coast of Yorke Peninsula, about 1 h 45 min by car from Adelaide via Port Wakefield and Ardrossan. There are no restaurants and no shops in Black Point itself; Pine Point has a general store with basic groceries, fuel and a bottle shop. People come here to fish, crab, swim, sail and stay in holiday shacks and camping grounds. Two or three nights is enough for a beach-and-boat stay; longer if you are using it as a base to explore the peninsula.

Etiquette, safety and scams
Etiquette
- Greeting: Handshake or 'G'day' / 'How are you going?'; first names from the start; avoid: Formal titles; long answers to 'how are you'
- Rounds: Buy your round ('shout') when drinking in a group; avoid: Leaving before your shout
- Queues: Queue patiently; sitting in the front seat of a taxi when alone is common; avoid: Pushing in — it is noticed
- Country: Listen to Welcomes and Acknowledgements; use local place names when offered; avoid: Touching artefacts or photographing ceremonies without permission
- Beach: Swim between the flags; respect lifesavers' instructions; avoid: Swimming at unpatrolled beaches alone
- Humour: Expect teasing and understatement; laugh along; avoid: Taking dry sarcasm literally or boasting
- Walking and driving: Keep left on footpaths and escalators; wave thanks to drivers who let you in; avoid: Stopping on the road to photograph kangaroos
Scams and watch-outs
- No restaurants in Black Point or Pine Point; the nearest places to eat are in Port Vincent, about 20 min south via the B88, or at peninsula hotels.
- Mobile reception can be patchy away from the highway and larger towns; Telstra and Optus generally have the best coverage on Yorke Peninsula.
- In an emergency, call 000 from any phone; the call is free.
- Summer fire danger and total fire ban days can close walking tracks and restrict campfires; check the CFS website before you travel.
- Beach driving, boat ramp use and fishing rules are managed by local and state authorities; check current rules before you launch or drive on sand.
Very safe for a beach town; the real risks are driving long distances after dark with wildlife on the road, patchy mobile reception, and summer heat and fire danger. Swim between the flags where patrolled and check conditions before you fish or launch.
