Bishnupur
বিষ্ণুপুর
Give Bishnupur one full day: the temples sit in four clusters and one day covers the main sites; add a second morning for the rest.
Bishnupur is a temple town in Bankura district, West Bengal, and the former capital of the Malla kings. Its brick and laterite temples, most built between 1600 and 1758, carry some of the finest terracotta panels in Bengal. The sites sit in four clusters around the Rasmancha, so one day covers the major ones and a second day suits a slower look. The town works as a one- or two-night stop from Kolkata, not a base for the region.
