Bingen am Rhein
Give Bingen one full day plus one night: the Rhine–Nahe corner, the Hildegard museum and a ferry hop to Rüdesheim. Two nights if you add a river cruise or a Nahe bike day.
Bingen sits where the Nahe meets the Rhine, opposite Rüdesheim, in the Rhenish Hesse wine country. It is a working river town, not a museum piece: two stations, a car ferry, cruise boats and the start of a 128 km bike path. Most travellers see it as a half-day stop on the Rhine; it earns a night if you want the Hildegard von Bingen story, the Mäuseturm and a quieter base than Rüdesheim across the water.
