Biggar
Give Biggar one night, or a half-day stop between Edinburgh and the M74: the gasworks museum and the puppet theatre are the reason to come, and both are a short walk from the High Street.
Biggar is a small market town in Clydesdale, about 2,400 people, on the A702 south of Edinburgh. It is a commuter town with two unusual sights — a preserved gasworks and a Victorian-style puppet theatre — plus a local museum, a golf course and hill walks on Tinto and Coulter Fell. Most travellers see it in a few hours; a night makes sense if you want the museum, the puppet show and a hill in one go.
