Bharuch
ભરૂચ
Bharuch is a half-day stop on the Mumbai–Vadodara rail line: see the Jami Masjid and the riverside, then move on. One night only if you need a break.
Bharuch (ancient Barygaza) is a quiet industrial city on the Narmada River, best known for its 14th-century Jami Masjid and a handful of temples. Most travellers pass through on the train between Mumbai and Vadodara. The old town and river ghats fill a morning; there is no reason to stay longer unless you are breaking a long journey.

Scams and watch-outs
- Heat and humidity from April to October: carry water and a hat.
- Auto-rickshaw drivers may quote inflated fares for short trips; negotiate firmly.
- The Jami Masjid is an active place of worship: dress modestly and remove shoes.
Bharuch is generally safe for tourists. The main risks are heatstroke in summer, aggressive touts at the railway station and traffic on the main roads. Keep valuables out of sight in crowded areas.
