Berlin is a former paper-mill city at the northern edge of the White Mountains, now an outdoor base: the Androscoggin River runs through downtown and Jericho Mountain State Park, a few minutes west, anchors one of the largest ATV trail networks in the Northeast. Downtown is small and walkable; the trails, lakes and forest roads are not, so a car or an ATV is the difference between a stop and a trip. Most visitors come for a weekend of riding, paddling or fishing, or use it as a bed base for the Great North Woods.
