Bentley
Skip Bentley as a base unless you want a cheap bed near Gull Lake: 1 night, or a 2-hour stop off Highway 12 between Lacombe and Rocky Mountain House.
Bentley is a town of about 1,100 people on Highway 12 in Alberta's Central Corridor, midway between Calgary and Edmonton and 15 minutes west of Lacombe. Its reason to exist for a traveller is Gull Lake: sandy beaches, Aspen Beach Provincial Park, and a paved path linking town to shore. The town itself is a main street of shops, a museum and a handful of restaurants. Most people see it in an afternoon; campers and lake-goers stay longer.

Scams and watch-outs
- Lake water quality at Gull Lake is monitored and can post advisories in late summer: check Alberta Health Services before swimming.
- Beach and campground parking fills on July–August weekends; arrive before 10:00.
- Winter Highway 12 and 20 can ice up; check Alberta 511 before driving.
- Cell coverage is fine in town but patchy on back roads around the lake.
Very safe. The real risks are highway driving, winter ice, and lake water quality advisories in late summer: check before you swim.
