Benson is a small rail town on Interstate 10 between Tucson and Willcox, with about 5,100 residents. The town itself has a short main street and a museum, but its real value is as a cheap, quiet base: Kartchner Caverns is 15 minutes south, Tombstone and Bisbee are within an hour, and Amtrak still stops here twice a day. Most travellers pass through in one night or skip it entirely.

Get around
You need a car. Benson has a small fixed-route bus (Benson Area Transit) but it does not serve the caverns, Tombstone or Bisbee. I-10 exits 302–312 reach the town; AZ-80 runs south to Tombstone and Bisbee, AZ-90 south-west to Sierra Vista. Amtrak stops at 105 E 4th St, but the train is a through service, not local transport.
