The Bekaa is one long valley floor between the Lebanon and Anti-Lebanon ranges, with the Beirut–Damascus road running through it. Zahle is the practical base: hotels, restaurants, wineries within 30 minutes. Baalbek's Roman complex and Anjar's Umayyad ruins are day-trips from there. Distances look short on the map but the valley is about 120 km end to end, so pick one base and drive out.

- The Bekaa is a large area with differing local conditions; check current advice for Baalbek-Hermel and the Syrian border zone before travelling.
- Public buses exist but are infrequent and unmarked; most visitors use a car, taxi or hired driver.
- Wine tours and tastings often need a booking the day before, especially at weekends.

- Bekaa valley floor
- Continental valley climate: hot dry summers, cold winters with frost and occasional snow. Spring and autumn are the comfortable windows.
The valley sits at about 900–1,100 m, so nights are cooler than the coast even in summer. Grape harvest runs roughly August to October.
