Beatrice
Half a day to see Homestead National Monument, then move on. One night only if you need a cheap stop on US-77 between Lincoln and Kansas.
Beatrice is a small Nebraska county seat of about 12,000 people, best known for the Homestead National Monument — the site of the first land claim under the 1862 Homestead Act. The monument's visitor centre, tall-grass prairie and heritage centre take 2–3 hours. The town itself has a compact downtown with a few cafés and shops, but most travellers pass through on US-77 between Lincoln and Kansas. A half-day stop is enough; an overnight is only needed if you are driving a long leg.
