Bear Lake
Half a day to one night: swim or boat on the lake, then move on. Not a base for the Grand Traverse Bay Area.
Bear Lake is a tiny Michigan town (population 286) on a clear, spring-fed lake. It works as a quick stop between Manistee and Traverse City: swim, fish, or jet ski for a few hours, then continue north or south. One night at the modest motel is enough; longer trips use Traverse City or Cadillac as a base.
