Bavaria is Germany's biggest state (70,540 km²) and its most-visited region, so the trap is trying to see it all from one hotel. Munich is the transport hub and the beer-and-museum base; Nuremberg covers Franconia and the north; Garmisch or Berchtesgaden covers the Alps. Trains link the three in 1–2.5 hours, and the Bayern-Ticket makes regional day-trips cheap for groups. Pick two bases, not five.
