Give Batu Pahat one night, two at most: it is a food-and-market town, not a sightseeing stop. No train, no airport — arrive by car or bus.
Batu Pahat (Bandar Penggaram) is a Johor market town of about 140,000 people, roughly 2 h by road from Johor Bahru and 3.5 h from Kuala Lumpur. There is no railway station and no airport. Its pull is cheap food, rotating night markets and low prices, so most travellers pass through on the way between Johor Bahru, Muar and Melaka rather than making it a destination.

Get around
A car or taxi is the practical way around: the town has several one-way streets, so watch the signs. Local stage buses run from the terminal in the town centre to the suburbs and are cheap. Ride-hailing works in the centre but thins out at night and at Minyak Beku.

- Border crossings to Singapore can add an hour or more at weekends and holidays.
