Batu Ferringhi is Penang's resort strip: a long, developed beach on the north coast with a nightly market, watersports and a row of hotels from RM 90 guesthouses to RM 500+ resorts. The sand is fine but the water is murky and jellyfish appear at times. Treat it as a beach base for 1–2 nights, then move to George Town for food and heritage.

Petty theft is uncommon but keep bags zipped in the night market. The real risks are the sea (jellyfish, murky water, no lifeguards in places), unlicensed watersports operators and taxis that refuse the meter.
