Batagay is a small settlement on the Yana River in northern Yakutia, home to about 3,800 people and the access point for the Batagaika crater, the largest known permafrost depression. There is no sightseeing town here: you come for the crater, and you need a flight from Yakutsk plus a local guide to do it.
