Barry is a seaside town 8 miles west of Cardiff, reached in about 25 minutes by train from Cardiff Central. It splits into two halves: Barry Island, with Whitmore Bay's sandy beach and a small Pleasure Park, and the town centre uphill at Holton Road. Most visitors come for the beach and the Gavin and Stacey locations, then return to Cardiff the same evening. A car helps for Porthkerry, Dyffryn Gardens and the Heritage Coast.

Get around
Four National Rail stations serve the town: Cadoxton, Barry Docks, Barry and Barry Island, all on the same Cardiff–Barry Island line. Trains run through the day and into the evening. Cardiff Bus routes 93–96 and 304 link the town centre, Barry Island and Cardiff; route 304 also serves Cardiff Airport. Local buses are thin in the evening, so plan the last one or take a taxi. National Cycle Network route 88 crosses Barry and is the easiest way to reach Porthkerry Park without a car.
