Barpali
ବରପାଲି
Half a day is enough: see the ikat weavers, visit the poet's house and eat chaul bara. Not a base — use Sambalpur or Bargarh for sleep.
Barpali is a small town in western Odisha, 22 km south of Bargarh, known as the birthplace of poet Gangadhar Meher and a centre for ikat handloom (bandha). Agriculture is the main economy; the town has a rail station on the Sambalpur–Titilagarh line. Most travellers come for a few hours to see the weaving and the Sital Sasthi festival.
