Barkam
马尔康
Half a day to see Zhuokeji fortress and the Tibetan quarter, then move on: one night is enough for Barkam.
Barkam (Ma'erkang) is the capital of Aba Tibetan & Qiang Autonomous Prefecture, a transit hub on the way to Jiuzhaigou, Langmusi and Hongyuan. The main draw is Zhuokeji, a restored chieftain's watchtower fortress with Long March history, and a small Tibetan village across the stream. Most travellers stop for one night or a half-day detour.
