Bangor is a Victorian seaside town turned Belfast commuter belt, 40 minutes by train from Belfast Grand Central. The marina, a small museum and a coastal path are the draw; the town itself is quiet after dark. Most travellers sleep here for cheaper beds than Belfast, or pass through on the way to Mount Stewart and the Ards Peninsula.

The centre is walkable: station to marina is about 10 minutes. Trains from Belfast Grand Central run every 20 min and take 40 min; Ulsterbus 1 and 2 take about 50 min from Belfast Laganside. Bus 3 runs hourly east to Donaghadee; bus 6 runs south to Newtownards for Mount Stewart and the Portaferry ferry. Taxis: Bangor Cabs, Quik Cabs, Call-a-Cab. National Cycleway 93/99 runs on-road down the peninsula.
