Bangassou
Skip unless you have a specific reason to visit the Mbomou region: the town has a market and wildlife nearby, but security and infrastructure are very limited. Half a day is enough to see the cathedral and market.
Bangassou is the capital of Mbomou prefecture on the Mbomou River, near the DRC border. It has a small airport, a historic cathedral, a market and the Kembé Falls 80 km away. The town was occupied by rebels in 2013 and saw clashes in 2017; security remains fragile. Most travellers pass through only if they have business in the region or are crossing into DRC.
