Bandung

Bandung is a cool-highland weekend from Jakarta; give it 1–2 nights for food, factory-outlet shopping and volcano day trips, and travel midweek to dodge the worst of the toll-road traffic.

Bandung is the capital of West Java, in the hills about 150 km south-east of Jakarta. It is cooler than the coast and known for factory outlets, cafes and Art Deco buildings. Volcano crater and tea-plantation trips are nearby.

Ride-hailing apps and taxis cover the city; traffic is heavy on weekends and holidays. Trips to the volcano and tea plantations need a hired car or organised tour, since the roads climb steeply out of town.

Language
