Bandırma

Pass through in half a day, or stay one night if you want the bird lake at dawn: the town itself has little to hold you.

Bandırma is a Marmara port where ferries from Istanbul meet buses for Bursa and Çanakkale, so most travellers see the harbour and nothing else. The one reason to stop is Lake Kuş and its Bird Paradise National Park, 15 km south, best in spring and autumn migration. Give the town half a day, or one night if you want the lake at first light.

Get around

The centre is walkable: ferry piers, railway station and the port restaurant strip sit within about 500 m of each other. Dolmuşes and city buses link the centre with the bus station 5 km south on the D200; taxis cover the same run. For the bird lake you need your own wheels or a taxi, as no public transport goes there.
