Ballyvaughan is a 360-person village on Galway Bay and the north edge of the Burren, the limestone country of County Clare. It is a base, not a sight in itself: the caves, the dolmen, the abbey and the coast road are all short drives away. Come May to September, sleep two nights, and rent a car before you arrive — the village has no taxi and the bus runs about six times a day.

- Gleninsheen wedge tomb has no public access; you see it from the road.
- Mobile: 4G from all Irish carriers; 5G has not reached this area (as of 2025).
- Many restaurants and the Burren Perfumery close outside April–October — check before you drive out.
Very safe for tourists: the real risks are narrow roads with no hard shoulder, sheep and cyclists on blind bends, and Burren mist with no marked trail. Walk the village at night without concern; drive with lights on and expect tractors.
