- Balloch Castle itself is derelict and closed to the public; the country park around it is open and free.
- Launching a motorboat or jetski on the loch needs advance registration with the national park and a fee at the slipway.
- Some loch cruises and the island restaurant run May–September only.
Balloch is a small, low-crime town and safe to walk by day and evening. The real risks are the weather on the water and hills, the busy A82, and midges from late May to August.
