Bali village centre
The centre is a compact knot of lanes around the small harbour and the main square. You can walk to the beach, the bakery, the pharmacy and a dozen tavernas without thinking about parking, which matters in July and August when the seafront fills up. Rooms here are mostly small family-run places and guesthouses rather than large hotels.
The downside is noise. Rooms over a taverna or on the main road can be loud until late, and the village beach is small. Ask for a room set back from the front if you sleep lightly.
The coastal strips
East of the village, the coast runs toward Vlychada and beyond, with a string of small beaches and low-key rooms. West, the road heads toward Stavromenos and a cluster of larger hotels with pools. Both strips are quieter than the centre and better for a beach-first holiday, but you will want a car or a willingness to use taxis for dinner and supplies.
This is also where the better-value pool hotels sit. If you are travelling as a family and want a pool plus a short walk to the sea, look here rather than in the village.
