Give it two nights: one full day for the Rue Saint-Jean-Baptiste galleries and the beach, one for the Route 362 coast or a Gouffre river run.
Baie-Saint-Paul is the working centre of Charlevoix, a 7,300-person town where the main street is a continuous run of galleries, cafés and stone houses, and the Gouffre river meets the St. Lawrence at a sand beach that stretches up to 1.7 km at low tide. It is a base, not a checklist: most visitors come for two nights, use it for the Route 362 coast and the Charlevoix crater country, and drive in from Québec City in about an hour.

Get around
The town centre is walkable end to end in about 20 minutes. A car is the real answer for the coast, the belvederes and the crater villages; Route 362 east to La Malbaie is the scenic road, Route 138 the fast one. Intercar buses stop at 2, chemin de l'Équerre. Taxis are limited: Taxi 5000 (+1 418-435-5000) and one other local firm. E-bike rental is seasonal.
