Baidyabati
Half a day is enough: walk the riverbank, see the old temples and the Dutch cemetery, then move on to Chandannagar or Serampore.
Baidyabati is a small Hooghly river town with a handful of colonial-era sights and a quiet ghat. It works as a short stop between Kolkata and the French-influenced towns upriver. Most visitors spend 3–4 hours here, then continue north.
