Install and set up before you fly, not on arrival. Nassau airport has wi-fi, but Out Island airports and docks often do not, and a map that will not load is the most common first-day problem.
1. Google Maps. Download the offline map for New Providence and every Out Island on your route while you still have fast wi-fi. Offline maps cover roads and main settlements; they do not show every beach track or ferry dock, so treat them as a backup to local signs and ask at your hotel.
2. Your airline's app. Inter-island flights are short and schedules move; the airline app is the fastest way to see a gate change or delay. Turn on notifications for the travel dates.
3. Bahamas Fast Ferries. Use it for ferry schedules and tickets between Nassau and the nearby islands. Book ahead in high season; same-day seats can sell out.
4. A banking or card app. Set a travel notification so your card is not blocked, and keep the app handy for checking charges. Cards work in Nassau; on the Out Islands carry cash as a backup.
Optional: a ride-hailing app. Availability is limited outside Nassau, so check locally before counting on it. A local taxi is usually the practical option, and fares are often quoted per person or per ride — agree the price before you get in.
Optional: a translation app. English is the official language, so you will not need one for daily travel. It is useful only if you want to read Bahamian Creole phrases, and even then standard English works everywhere.
