How to choose your dates
Start with what you want to do. Beach days, boat trips to the cays and sandbars, and diving all depend on calm water, which is most reliable from December to May. If your trip is mostly resort time in Nassau or Paradise Island, weather matters less and price matters more — May and November give you most of the good conditions without the peak rates.
Then check the two risk windows. Hurricane season runs 1 June to 30 November, with the highest chance of a storm in August, September and October. September is also when some Out Island hotels and restaurants shut for the season, so a small-island trip in that window can mean limited food and transport options. Winter has its own issue: cool fronts push through the northern islands, bringing wind and a few chilly days, and the sea sits near 23 °C — comfortable for a quick swim, cold for long snorkelling without a wetsuit.
Finally, match the month to your budget and patience for crowds. Mid-December to April is the dry high season and the most expensive stretch; March adds spring break traffic in Nassau. May is the value pick. September and October are the cheapest months, but you are buying storm risk and closures with that discount. If you are flexible, keep your plans loose enough to move a day or two.
For island choice by season: Nassau and Paradise Island are the usual first stop (check current conditions and openings). Exuma, Eleuthera and Abaco are best December to June. Andros suits November to June for blue holes and bonefishing. Grand Bahama, closest to Florida, is best December to May.

Holidays move crowds and close businesses. Junkanoo parades fill downtown Nassau around New Year's Day and Boxing Day, and hotels book out. Independence Day on 10 July, Emancipation Day in early August and National Heroes Day in October bring local celebrations and some closures. Good Friday and Easter Monday fall in March or April and can affect ferry and tour schedules.
Weather is not the only seasonal factor. Sea conditions decide whether small-boat trips to the Exuma cays or the Abaco cays run at all, and operators cancel on windy days regardless of the forecast for rain. If a specific boat day is the point of your trip, give yourself two possible dates.
