Baffin Island is the world's fifth-largest island and holds about 13,000 people, almost all in a handful of coastal communities reached only by air. There are no roads between them. You come for sea ice, fjords, glaciers and Arctic wildlife, not for a road trip. Two weeks is the useful minimum if you want more than Iqaluit; a week is enough for Iqaluit plus one community or park. Everything is expensive and weather-dependent, so treat the plan as a wish list.

- Baffin Island
- Long cold winters and foggy summers. Thaw reaches Iqaluit about early June but the north coast about early to mid-July. Sea ice clears the north coast only for short spells from mid- to late June to the end of September.
Most of the island is north of the Arctic Circle: midnight sun in June and July, polar night in winter. The southern end of the island is often the better place for northern lights.
