Baden bei Wien is a spa town of about 25,000 people 25 km south of Vienna, part of the UNESCO-listed Great Spa Towns of Europe. The old centre is small and flat, the sulphur springs and the Kurpark are the point, and the two castle ruins above town are a half-day walk. Most travellers see it as a day trip from Vienna; one night makes sense if you want the thermal baths and the casino without a late train.

Get around
The centre is flat and walkable in 15–20 minutes end to end. Three city bus routes (A, B, C) run Monday–Saturday; single trip €2.10 adults, €1.10 children 6–15, week ticket €15.80. Nextbike rental is about €1/hour, €10/day. Taxis are cheap for short hops; ask the fare before you get in.
