Bad Homburg
Bad Homburg vor der Höhe
Base in Frankfurt and give Bad Homburg one half-day: Kurpark and Louisenstraße on foot, 25 min by S-Bahn. Sleep here only for spa or casino nights.
Bad Homburg is a spa and casino town on the edge of the Taunus, 25 minutes by S-Bahn from central Frankfurt. The Kurpark, the Landgrave Castle and the 700 m pedestrian Louisenstraße sit within a 15-minute walk of each other, so a half-day covers the centre. Add a second half-day for the Saalburg Roman fort or the Taunus Therme, and it becomes a full day out of Frankfurt rather than a place to sleep.

Etiquette, safety and scams
Etiquette
- Greeting: Firm handshake with eye contact; 'Guten Tag' or 'Hallo'; avoid: Hugs with people you have just met
- Names: Herr / Frau plus surname until invited to use first names; avoid: Using 'du' with officials or older strangers
- Punctuality: Arrive on time for tours, dinners and appointments; avoid: Being more than 5–10 minutes late without a message
- Queues and rules: Follow signs, wait at red lights, sort rubbish; avoid: Walking in cycle lanes
- Conversation: Direct and factual; people say what they mean; avoid: Taking directness as rudeness, or joking about the Nazi era
- Home visit: Bring flowers (odd number, not red roses) or wine; shoes off if the hosts do; avoid: Arriving early
- Paying: Say the total including tip as you pay; avoid: Leaving coins on the table and walking off
Scams and watch-outs
- Bad Homburg has no long-distance trains: you change in Frankfurt for ICE services.
- The casino is a working gambling floor with a dress code and ID checks; check opening hours and entry rules before you go.
- Taunus Therme prices and hours change by season and by time of day: check the official site.
- Parking near the Kurpark fills on sunny weekends; the station car parks are the fallback.
- Some museums keep short afternoon hours and close on Mondays: check before travelling.
Very safe for a German town of its size; the real risks are pickpockets on the S-Bahn into Frankfurt, fast cyclists on the shared paths, and losing money at the casino tables. Standard big-city care at night around the station.
