Bad Gandersheim

Bad Gandersheim is a small spa town in Southern Lower Saxony, founded around a 9th-century abbey and still built around its twin-towered Stiftskirche. It is a stop on the Harz rail and road corridor, 99 km from Hannover Airport, and its summer Domfestspiele theatre festival is the reason most visitors time a night here. Two nights is the ceiling; one is enough for the town itself.

Get around
The centre is walkable in 10 minutes end to end. The railway station (Bahnhofstr. 1) links to the Harz towns and the wider German network; the A7 exits 67 (Seesen/Harz) and 68 (Echte) put the town on the B248/B64 and B445. Bikes can be rented in town and the R1 long-distance cycle route passes through.
