Axim
Go for a half-day or one night: see the 1515 Portuguese fort, walk the beach and sleep at a resort. Not a base — use Sekondi-Takoradi or Busua instead.
Axim is a small fishing town on Ghana's western coast, 60 km west of Takoradi. Its main draw is Fort Santo Antonio (1515), perched on a rocky promontory. The beaches are fine but can have debris near the fort. Most travellers stop for a few hours on the way between Sekondi-Takoradi and the Ivorian border, or stay one night at a beach resort. The town itself is poor and offers little beyond the fort and a couple of resorts.
