Day trip from Perth to Margaret River: how to get there and what to do

Margaret River sits about 280 km south of Perth, a 3–3.5 hour drive each way on the Kwinana and Bussell highways. A same-day return means 6–7 hours behind the wheel and roughly 4–5 hours in the region — enough for one cave, one beach and one winery, not the surf coast, the forest walks and the food scene that make the area worth the trip.
