The Atlantic Coast is Maldonado and Rocha departments, a 300 km strip of beach towns strung along Route 10. Buses run from Montevideo's Tres Cruces terminal to the main hubs several times a day; smaller villages need a transfer. Sleep in one or two bases and day-trip the rest — summer beds in Punta del Este fill weeks ahead and prices triple in January.
