Athens is a college town of about 115,000 people, built around the University of Georgia and a compact downtown of bars, music rooms and restaurants. Most of what a visitor wants sits within a 20-minute walk of College Avenue. It is a two-night stop on a Georgia road trip, not a destination week, and it is at its busiest and most expensive on home football weekends.
