Atchison is a small Missouri River town in eastern Kansas, best known as the birthplace of Amelia Earhart. The main draw is the Amelia Earhart Birthplace Museum and the International Forest of Friendship. A handful of 19th-century houses, two of them marketed as haunted, fill out an afternoon. Most travellers pass through on US-59 between St. Joseph and Lawrence.
