Ashford is a market town in central Kent and a rail junction: high-speed trains reach London St Pancras in about 35–37 minutes, and Canterbury, Dover, Folkestone, Ramsgate and Margate are all short hops away. The town centre is ordinary; the reasons to stop are the Designer Outlet, the surrounding villages and the North Downs walks. Most travellers use it as a bed for one or two nights rather than a destination.

Get around

The centre is walkable in 15–20 minutes. Stagecoach runs most local buses; a hire car is the practical way to reach villages, vineyards and the North Downs. Taxis are plentiful but book ahead for early trains.
