Åre is Sweden's biggest ski resort, on Åreskutan in Jämtland, about 100 km west of Östersund. Winter is alpine skiing and nightlife; summer is hiking, trail running and downhill biking. Get around
The village is walkable. The ski bus runs hourly between Duved, Tegefjäll, Åre village and Björnen; it is free with a ski pass and about 20 SEK when the lifts are closed. Trains stop at Åre station in the centre. A car helps for waterfalls and side valleys, not for the resort itself.
