Aquiraz
Half-day trip from Fortaleza for the Beach Park water park and a beach lunch; one night if you want a quieter coastal base.
Aquiraz, 30 km southeast of Fortaleza, was the first capital of Ceará (until 1726). Today it is a beach-and-water-park destination: the Beach Park complex in Porto das Dunas draws families, while the historic centre holds a small religious museum and an 18th-century church. Most travellers visit as a half-day trip from Fortaleza; staying one night gives you time for the quieter beaches of Iguape and Prainha.
