Skip as a base: Anyang is a Seoul satellite on Line 1 and Line 4, 30 min from Seoul Station. Come for a half day at Anyang Art Park, or sleep here only if Seoul beds are full.
Anyang is a satellite city of Seoul in southern Gyeonggi Province, on Seoul Subway Line 1 and Line 4. It grew as an industrial city and now runs on services and education, with Pyeongchon New Town holding one of the province's densest clusters of private academies. There is no old town to wander: the draw is Anyang Art Park, a forested hill with outdoor sculpture, plus two museums and a stream-side ecology hall. Most travellers pass through on the way to Suwon, Ansan or Seoul.

- Best for a short stay: Lotte Department Store, New Core Outlet, cinemas and the Pyeongchon 1st Street food and bar strip within a few minutes' walk of Exit 2.
- Pyeongchon (Line 4)
- Quieter, planned New Town; Pyeongchon Central Park, the library and the academy street. Good for families, thin on nightlife.
- Anyang Station (Line 1)
- The transport hub: intercity bus terminal opposite, Mugunghwa trains, Lotte Cinema and E-Mart. Practical for one night with bags, less pleasant at street level.

- Greeting: A slight bow with a 'annyeonghaseyo'; handshake with the right hand, left hand touching the right forearm; avoid: Hugs and cheek kisses with people you have just met

Scams and watch-outs
- Anyang is a working city, not a sightseeing town: the sights are spread across three districts and you will spend time on buses and trains between them.
- Summer humidity is high and July–August brings most of the year's rain; the same months are the hottest.
- The intercity bus terminal office does not take credit cards: bring cash or pay in the app.
- Late-night taxi surcharges apply; Kakao Taxi is easier to call than T-map.
One of the safer parts of the Seoul area; violent crime against visitors is rare. The real risks are traffic, shared bikes on pavements, summer heat and humidity, and monsoon flooding on the Anyang stream paths.
