Antelope Valley is the high desert north of Los Angeles: Joshua trees, poppy fields in spring, wind farms and aerospace history, spread across a grid of avenues and numbered streets. It is a car region. Palmdale and Lancaster hold the beds and the Metrolink stations; everything else is a drive. Come for a half-day on the way to or from the Mojave, or one night if you want the poppy reserve at opening time.
