Give Anshan one full day for Qianshan and the Jade Buddha, or skip it: it is a steel city 20 min from Shenyang by high-speed rail.
Anshan is Liaoning's third-largest city and one of China's biggest steel producers, about 92 km south of Shenyang. Travellers come for two things: Qianshan National Park, a ridge of jagged peaks with Buddhist and Taoist temples, and the Jade Buddha Temple, home to a 260-tonne jade Buddha. The city itself is industrial and spread out; most trips use it as a day trip from Shenyang rather than a base.

Scams and watch-outs
- Winter highs stay below freezing and the high-speed line runs at reduced speed in cold weather: allow extra time.
- Qianshan is a full day of stairs; cable cars do not reach the top, so expect climbing.
- The Jade Buddha Temple and the underground Lohan display are ticketed separately.
- Airport is domestic-only: international arrivals come through Shenyang.
Anshan is a normal industrial Chinese city and is safe for tourists by day and evening. The real friction is language (little English away from hotels) and winter cold; carry your hotel's name in Chinese for taxis.
