Annavaram is a compact temple town on the banks of the Pampa River in central Andhra Pradesh, famous for the Sri Veera Venkata Satyanarayana Swamy temple on Ratnagiri hill. Most pilgrims arrive by train or bus, climb the hill for darshan, eat the free temple meal and leave the same day. The town has no other major attractions, so a half-day stopover is the standard visit.
