Go for one night, or as a half-day stop from Mount Abu or Palanpur: the temple takes 1–2 hours, Gabbar hill another 2, and there is little else.
Ambaji is a temple town in the Aravalli hills of north Gujarat, near the Rajasthan border, built around the Shri Arasuri Ambaji Shaktipeeth. Pilgrims come for the darshan and for the eternal flame on Gabbar hill, about 4 km away. There is no airport and no railway station: you arrive by road from Palanpur, Khedbrahma, Mount Abu or Ahmedabad. Most travellers need one night, or pass through on the way to Mount Abu.

Get around
The town is small enough to walk: temple to bus stand is about 15 minutes. Autorickshaws cover the town and Gabbar hill; agree the fare first. Shared jeeps run to Kumbharia and Hadad. A hired car with driver is the practical way to reach Koteshwar, Kumbharia and the sanctuary.

Scams and watch-outs
- No railway station and no airport: every arrival is by road, and hill roads are slow after dark.
- Festival full-moon days (Kartika and Bhadrapada) bring huge crowds: rooms sell out and prices jump. Check the temple calendar before booking.
- The ropeway and the temple run separate hours; the last uphill trip is well before sunset. Check both before you go.
- Photography and phone rules inside the sanctum change: follow what staff say on the day.
- Summer heat is serious; carry water and avoid midday walking on Gabbar hill.
Ambaji is a small, busy pilgrimage town and is generally safe for visitors, including solo women, in daylight. The real risks are hill-road driving after dark, festival crush, summer heat and unlicensed guides or priests demanding money at the temple: use the official counter and walk away from anyone who asks for cash up front.
